Product Review: Cantu Shea Butter Rinse Out & Leave-In Conditioners

Being a long grow-out transitioner I have had to try all sorts of products to get the two textures to “work together” ultimately trying to achieve some kind of harmony on the top of my head. This product review should really be titled “Renewed Love” because that is exactly what I have for the Cantu Shea Butter line of products. I used these products when I was relaxing my hair faithfully, however, I didn’t like the end result when using them on my solely relaxed hair. After using the products along with others in my regimen, my hair felt clammy. However, now that I am transitioning, and using these products together, I love the end result.

The Cantu Shea Butter Rinse Out conditioner, I use as a deep conditioner. I place the product on my hair and then cover with a plastic cap for at least 30-45 minutes. I find it best to detangle my hair while this product is on as the comb moves through with ease. After rinsing the product out my hair feels moisturized and soft. The shea butter in this product nourishes your hair by coating the hair shaft from root to tip.

The next product I use in this regimen is the Cantu Butter Leave-In Conditioner Repair Cream. This leave-in conditioner is the! It helps with the definition of one’s curl pattern and leaves your hair soft as well. Hair is not weighed down or clammy! In addition, since using this conditioner I have also noticed a decrease in breakage, which is one of the claims the company makes about this product.

This regimen has aided in my transitioning which I find challenging at times and I recommend these products to anyone who is in this stage of their natural hair journey.

Product Review: Jane Carter Nourish & Shine

So after all the praise I have heard about Jane Carter products, I decided to give them a try myself and I just had to write a review on the Jane Carter Nourish & Shine. Simple stated: I love this product! The Nourish & Shine has a butter-like texture and the fragrance is a pleasing sweet grapefruit scent. The shea, illippe, and mango butters, which are the main ingredients in this product, make my hair feel so soft, and these butters are know for their conditioning properties. After using this product your hair is also left with a glowing shine as well as it helps reduce scalp dryness.

I used this product when doing my twist out as well as my daughter’s and both styles came out very well. The curls were bouncy and full of life; best of all there was no frizz!

The only drawback to this product is the price which is $21.99 for 4 oz. However, a little of this product goes a long way, so 4 oz. will last you a while.

Halley’s Curls – Virgin Malaysian Hair

Halley’s Curls – Virgin Malaysian 12″ & 14″

Transitioning styles are plenty, however time is not! The task of coming up with hairstyles leaves me at a loss. The choice is to weave! There is a first time for everything and this will be a first. Weave or wigs or braids, have never been my thing, but I never knocked it. Per the recommendation of a close girlfriend, a woman whom I would call a “weaveologist,” I purchased Halley’s Curls Virgin Malaysian since their Salon Relaxed was OUT OF STOCK. Being a newbie I was skeptical at first until I received the hair. The hair is gorgeous and soft as well as very similar to my relaxed texture!

Hydration Bath

Halley’s Curls shipping turnaround time is very quick as I ordered on Wednesday and was in receipt on Saturday. HC provides very detailed instructions on how to prepare the hair for installation which includes a hydration bath with Dove Intensive Hair Conditioner which smells great and makes the hair feel fabulous!

I am in love! At first I didn’t know what to expect; didn’t know how long the process would take or even what was involved, however, I enjoyed every moment. Feyi owner of Lush Manes did a fabulous job on my install! I feel like a new woman and highly recommend her. The install took just under two and half hours and to me that was quick. This is new experience for me and I am sure my alter ego is bound to show up soon!

Product Junkie

Searching for hair products is completely trial and error to me since all hair is different. There may be some instances where products work exactly the same or similarly on different individuals, however I have found my expectations greatly differ from the next. I love for my hair to be manageable, soft, and moisturized so any product that meet these three requirements is added to my “product junkie” cabinet; any that do not are given away or discarded! I have a problem, I know (The first step is admitting it!) During this transition my product search has been renewed as I look for natural products for my transitioning hair; products to assist in “the struggle”.

The use of Shea Moisture’s Dry, Damaged product line. The Shea Moisture Moisture Retention Shampoo restores my hair leaving it feeling soft and none the less moisturized. It is a sulfate-free shampoo which does not strip the hair of essential nutrients, however leaves it feeling squeaky clean. Although quite pleased with the shampoo I was quite displeased with the Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque which left my hair feeling stripped of the moisture just supplied by the line’s shampoo. This masque is protein-rich which leaves the hair feeling hard and requires the use of a moisture-rich conditioner following it in order to leave the hair feeling soft once again.

One product has stayed in my regimen which is the CHI Silk Infusion which allows me to protect my hair when blow drying and heat styling, as well as delivers manageable, soft, luxurious hair. CHI Silk Infusion is an alcohol-free reconstructing leave-in, which has pure natural silk, wheat and soy products, ingredients that are great for fortifying one’s hair and for thermal protection. It can be expensive ($13.99-$23.99/6 oz.), however simply love it!
